I had my own little trip through hell and heaven, a la Dante’s Divine Comedy.

It all started out as me and my friend Tony decided to go on the French class’s overnight trip to a small town to study their French heritage. I think it was Buffalo, OK. We take the treacherous bus ride through the twists and turns and the slick, wet roads of the Ouchita Mtns, and finally arrive. After I step off the bus and find my hotel room, it quickly turns night and a big storm hits. Soon Tony and I are being led through the levels of Hell, which are dangerous to us b/c we are still just mortals. I lose track of where Tony is along the way. When I get to the bottom of Hell, I’m abandoned by my guide (who’s just a voice). I have to sneak my way back up through the levels of Hell, avoiding ghosts and demons along the way. I find Tony again, and after we get back to the hotel room we’re shown into Heaven. Or so we think. Then God, or whomever, shows us a video of how we’ve fallen from some of the best to close to the worst. He doesn’t want to show us through Heaven. Since Tony nor I had a Beatrice to guide back from Hell and into Heaven, we’re kinda screwed. We try sneaking around, trying to find ways to get higher up in Heaven, but we don’t have much sucess. It’s harder to get through Heaven than it is through Hell.

I’m not even going to attempt to analyze what that means. :-)

  1. It really cracks me up that your trip to France ends up being a trip to hell. :-)
