yuck

Work sucked today. My mind was just not there at all. First I spent 2 hours making a solution of 6M gaunidine HCl, using up 3/4 of our supply in the process. First the pH meter was on the fritz, then I added too much water, then half of it took a leap into the sink… argh. After that I found out that Dr. Duncan didn’t think the standards I made yesterday were correct, even though we found out today that yes, they were perfectly correct and the ones she had made today were totally off. I had to run the spec machine again b/c nobody else is willing to learn, and I had to make up the plate, which took about 3x longer than it should have. I kept pipetting in the wrong amounts or the right amounts into the wrong wells. For something that should have used 4 rows I used 12. When I wanted to leave the scanner (for the gels) wasn’t working and I had to fix that… all it took was a reboot, but they don’t tend to think of things like that. I had some nasty dishes to do too, but at least I didn’t spray water all over myself again.

Well, finally something happened with Ryan. He came over this evening. He wanted me a to give us a place to start with a new romantic relationship, and I couldn’t give him that. He said that he felt too passionately about me to just be friends with me, that he’d be constantly trying to get me back if he saw me. He couldn’t be merely friends with me. So he’s decided not to see me for an undefined period of time. This hurts, since I don’t want to lose him as a friend. He’ll come back to me sometime, I know he will. But right now it’s not too much fun.

Today hasn’t been exactly great… I think I’m going to take Sean’s advice and spend this weekend playing games. I still need to finish Lionheart, and SimCity 4 has been calling me lately. I don’t have class on Monday, so I can sleep in before work. Perhaps between that and the brwonies I made I can start the week off OK.
