Birfdays and Literature
Thursday, February 3rd, 2005 @ 2:31am. Category: General.Yesterday was Ryan’s 21st birthday (as apparently it was a million others– what happened around May 1st 1983 that so many people have this as their 21st birthday?). I, Ryan, Ryan’s annoying work friend David, Chuck, and Chuck’s guy Kevin went to Coach’s for pool and drinking. I unfortunately had to spend an hour and a half with just Ryan and David before Chuck et al showed up, but Ryan did teach me how to properly shoot a pool cue. I was originally taught by horny teenage boys and had some “odd” ways of lining myself up for ashot. No getting plastered for anybody but Ryan, however– the roads were bad and we all had class that next morning. Not that I wanted to get plastered, but I do enjoy a good drink every now and then.
I got Garret’s book in the mail today. I didn’t know I had ordered it, but it showed up on my bank statement this month. I must have done it when I got back at like 5am from visiting him. I’ve read the first 3 chapters so far, and I like. It’s in need of a good proofreader, but it’s some fine work. I’ll have to ask him what his favorite authors are– I see a blend of many good authors, but most strongly Ray Bradbury. It might just be the fact that both of them write semi-autobiographical stories, but they have a similar pace to their styles. Not that I’m particularly well-read– I can only claim that in the realm of sci-fi and even then I’m missing some key people. I like what I see, and with some coaching from somebody who actually does this for a living I see Garret maybe making some money off this writing thing.
And now it’s back to French and philosophy and immunology. I’ll have enough stuff to keep me busy this weekend, even if I don’t get to hang out with anybody.
