I bet the key is a plot device! Let’s use it!

Note: I am crazy-tired but hopped up on caffeine. I got up at 4.30am with Jay this morning so that he could get to the airport and spend the weekend doing family things in Alabama. (And I know he made it because he called me while waiting for luggage at the airport! :-) Be on the look-out for run-on sentences and other fun things of that sort!

Since I’ve known Jay and he’s been in town (I think, I can’t remember– either way it’s been a while) I’ve been going with him Fridays (and some Saturdays) to watch him game with his friends, and I got in on a little bit of the action myself. It’s been ages since I played any table-top RPGs, and what I did play back then was mostly White Wolf stuff. They (with lots of patience from Jay) eased me into d20 for a Star Wars-themed game, and I made a D&D3.5 Conan character that I’ll probably never use, and all by myself I made another 3.5e druid that I used once at mutual friend Joe’s gaming session a few weeks back. (Joe is mutual because Jay and I each knew him via separate avenues. In fact, if it wasn’t for Joe’s insistance that I go to an OUI! show I would never have met Jay. Anyway, the gaming session was in OKC and Sunday was a bad day for both Jay and I and it just wasn’t going to work out with Joe’s group.)

Umm… oh, yes. This week I attended the gaming session on Friday without Jay. Fridays consist of a hero-system game, and they’ve all been playing teenage super-heroes. The GM suggested that since I’m pretty much around when Jay is I should play one of the NPCs to get used to the system and enjoy myself. This week I showed up, Jay’s dice in my bag, and played a very very fun game. I know it’s selfish to ramble on about what we did (because none of you are in the game), but there were a few memorable moments that I think I can share without boring anybody. I’m not certain how well it will come across in my current state of mind, so feel free to skip the next paragraph.

Long story short everybody’s kind of a comatose zombie, or they’re essentially suspended in time, except our group of heros-in-making at a special academy (think X-Men, sorta). We need keys to the building, and find a set on mysterious suspended teacher Mr. Saleem. In the set is a pretty gold key, quite unlike the rest. After doing what we needed, we decided to find what the key went to! In mysterious Saleem’s mysterious room we found a mysterious box that matched the key. Should we use it? Of course– “I bet the key is a plot device! Let’s use it!” I exclaimed to the others. We released a jin and he was rather sarcastic and curt, but he did give the girls pretty jewelry and harem outfits. Later the jin slices suspended Saleem, and he starts “bleeding” dust. So we find a dustpan and some ductape and patch him back up. :-)

Earlier in the evening, shortly after I had arrived, Jay’s brother-in-law Matt arrived to hang out. With his wife and kid gone to Alabama he had all kinds of free time and didn’t know what to do with himself. He stayed for an enjoyable 30-45 minutes before heading out again. I’d say I don’t know what to do with myself with Jay gone, except that I have a lot of homework to do and things to do to Jay’s computers to keep them running well and banana bread to make and I still must get Paul to loan me Harry Potter. Plus it’s nice being on my computer again. Yay kick-ass video card (well, it once was. GF4 4200 128megs) and monitor (mitsubishi 720 or something, it’s been rebranded as a Compaq p720) and ram (521megs of DDR 2100, which again was once kick-ass but it still very useful) and processor (AMD Athlon XP 1800+ at 1.54GHz instead of 1.53GHz). Yay old keyboard w/o windows keys; yay 5-button optical mouse; yay 1600×1200 resolution at 75Hz; yay applications doing just what I want them to do because I’ve tweaked them so much from default!

Normally it’s about 50/50 split between staying at Jay’s and staying at my place, but for the past week and a half Jay’s been sick. Sick means that you want your own bed and your own easychair and your own bathroom and your own everything. Sick for Jay also means that he gets extra snuggly (same for me, for which I can’t blame him. Heck, even Ryan would oblige me when I was sick and we were fighting. Comforting the sick is noble and above most everything else.) so I stayed with him at his place. I think I’ve got enough dirty clothes there now for a load of laundry. I’ve been coming home from work, doing maintenance stuff (checking e-mail, watering plants, ect), grabbing clothes and heading out, then coming back to my place for class. It feels like I’m paying huuuge rent for a parking spot sometimes. :-)

I hope I didn’t break anybody’s brain. I think after writing it mine’s still intact…
