So if I’m Bored…

So if I’m bored on Labor Day, surely some of you are/were too. I spent a lot of today on-line looking for things to read. Luckily SA was back up, but my real passion lately has been blogs. I found very few updated blogs today, and was disappointed. I then realized that if I’m cruising around looking for updated content, some of my readers probably are as well. Yay to new content!

Today was a day specifically set aside for doing nothing at the apartment. Jay wanted to work on music, and I wanted to get a lot of knitting done. One of my favorite ways to spend time with Jay is to read or knit on the recliner while he composes. Kaylee the kitten makes this a little more complicated.

Kaylee loves it when I knit. As soon as she hears my needles’ clickety noises she bounces up onto my lap and starts purring and kneading. She starts batting at the needles, sometimes trying to eat them, and attempts to run away to her lair with my skein of yarn. If I stop knitting she gives me her “keep doing that” meow (she is part Siamese, after all) and taps my hand. Knitting is a game solely for her enjoyment. The only thing she seems to like better than knitting is the jingle-bell on a ribbon we’ve rigged up for her. Kaylee will chase that thing until she’s panting.

My knitting hasn’t been going so well, anyway. I’ve been trying to make an earwarmer thingy with some Lionbrand yarn and I’ve had to start over more than once. I’ve never had much luck with Lionbrand, so I’m going to try it with something else I’ve got lying around to see if it works up any easier.

I did accomplish something productive today. Jay and I went to PetsMart to get Kaylee some more food (Nutro) and some more litter. Jay was recognized by a nurse in line for his work at the Planetarium. This is the second time in a week that Jay’s been recognized; the first time was for Improv. I feel like I’m dating quite the celebrity now.

After PetsMart we went to Red Robin. We’d been there once before and found their food not up to the prices paid. We had a giftcard this time, and decided to order as many steak fries as we could. Red Robin’s steak fries are quite awesome and the only reason I ever actually go back to it. We found out the steak fries were free, and Jay wanted to sit there and just order them. I imagined they probably were only free if we ordered some type of food, so we ordered chicken fingers with a bottomless basket of steak fries for $8.49. The chicken fingers were lacking both in quantity and quality (I’ve had better frozen ones) and the steak fries were a hassle to get refilled. I’ve still got a dollar-off coupon, but unless somebody drags me to Red Robin I doubt it’s getting used.

So has anybody read The News from Paraguay? Jay’s reading it for class and I read a chapter with him after I woke up from napping (with him as a pillow, of course). It seems like a rather interesting book, of the type that gets talked about by literary people in snoody magazines. Are any of my readers perusing the “cool” books?
