Yay for doing things!
Friday, October 21st, 2005 @ 8:00pm. Category: General. After my midterms of doom Wednesday I was rather depressed, as evidenced by the previous post. Thursday my Philosophy class was cancelled, so after a very short and mostly unproductive time at the lab I headed home. I wanted to do something productive, but didn’t feel like housework. I didn’t feel like taking a walk, even though the weather was perfect for it. I didn’t feel like reading, and I didn’t feel like knitting. I decided I should finally look at getting a new design up for this site. It didn’t really work out– the colors I decided on were too bold for the current layout, and I was not having a good day mentally so the CSS juices weren’t flowing.
After 5 hours of this, Jay came home. He told me that he had a dance concert he had to attend, and that he wanted to go grocery shopping tonight. I complained about how I felt like I didn’t want to do anything, and he offered to get my groceries for me. After a few minutes I decided I would at least go grocery shopping– I wanted to do something productive today.
Going out was probably the best thing I did yesterday. I had a wonderful time! We got smoothies for dinner before heading out for groceries. The store wasn’t terribly crowded, and we got back with plenty of time before the dance concert. I decided to go to the dance concert too– afterall, it was free, and getting out of the house seemed to help my mood enormously.
Jay hadn’t told me what the concert was, and so I assumed it was going to be a normal dance recital. It turns out that it was the first stop on tour for a traditional Indian dance ensemble. The program named it as “Aniruddha Knight: Bharata Natyam, Music and Dance in the Family Style of T. Balasaraswati.” I love Indian music, and find the dance to be fairly entertaining. This guy, though, was simply amazing. We sat fairly close to the front, and I got to see how amazingly articulate and strong his feet were. The performance was two hours, but I didn’t mind one bit.
Afterwards, there was a reception with free Indian food. Neither Jay nor I are fiends for spicey food, but Indian food is an exception. Indian food is probably the only spicey food I’ll eat, and if I had the money or the culinary skills I’d eat it every day. It was great food, and a great way to end an evening.
