Busy; Still Barely Kicking

Quantitative analysis and my thesis are doing a lot to kill me, but I’m not quite dead yet. I’ve also had some spam problems, and I didn’t want to post again until I got those sorted out. I don’t really have them sorted out, but if you use my RSS feed you’ll probably notice it doesn’t exist anymore. I had spammers using it to go all-out on entries within an hour of posting. I’d love to implement some better anti-spam, but the plug-ins are few and far between, and as far as I can tell I’m missing at least one important Perl module (Authen::Captcha) to do it. I’m considering trying out some different blogging engines this summer.

Some other news: Graduating with a BS in Microbiology, minor in Chem! I actually mentioned that I was getting to graduate this May in the entry that’s no longer on the front page. It’s no longer there because spammers keep hitting it, and once I disable comments for it I’ll put it back up.

O.U.I.! is going to Chicago, and I get to go with them! I also launched a new, spiffy site design for them about a month ago. Go check it out! There are some sweet headshots, too.

Jay and I will celebrate a year (or so) this month, and we might get to celebrate while in Chicago. If we have time, we’re going to hit up the Adler planetarium to celebrate. (Yeah, yeah, we’re nerdy. But astronomy is cool nerdy.)

My sister is no longer engaged, dating, or speaking to Sweathog, which makes me ecstatic. She has break-up pains, of course, but I’m convinced this is for the best. Apparently he did crap like e-mail Mom when he and my sister were fighting, asking stuff like, “How do I control your daughter?” Can you see why I hate this guy?

Kaylee went to the vet and had her insides rummaged and picked through. While doing the spay, the vet found a shunt, and upon looking for more found a non-symmetrical vascular system. Kaylee also has spots in her fur where the Siamese-enzyme doesn’t appear to be present. Non-standard vascular system + strange fur patterns = probable chimera. Kaylee is two, two, two cats in one!

I am knitting again, although it’s going really slowly thanks to school and trying to find a job. Right now I’m knitting an eggroll for Kaylee (oriental cats get oriental toys). After that I’m going to knit a replacement bucket hat– I lost mine somewhere, and with Summer already here (Spring lasted 2 days) I need to protect my poor ears.

Random fun: I had a very awesome sandwhich tonight, and I shall detail it: Thick sliced smoked turkey, cucumers (sliced ~1/4 inch), roma tomatoes (sliced ~1/4 inch), broccoli sprouts, mustard, garlic powder, and basil. Yummy.
