An Inconvenient Truth
Friday, July 7th, 2006 @ 12:25am. Category: General, Reviews.Short review: Needs more explosions (current explosion count: 1), and possibly a chase scene.
Longreview: A very spiffed-up powerpoint presentation given by Al Gore. However, Al Gore just plain lacks charisma and that human feeling, so the movie goes through parts of his personal life in order to humanize him. These stories are interesting but don’t really fit in with the film. Several times during the movie I felt like I was in debate playing the “link the disad” game. An example: attempting to make sense of why the audience needs to know that Al Gore’s father was once Breeder of the Month for his cows.
Gore really has a lot of good points about global warming that people need to hear. Unfortunately, I am pretty sure that I, my two companions, and the other 7 people in the theatre were already convinced global warming is a major problem that needs action now. I just don’t think that anybody who is on the fence is going to bother paying $7.50 (student price!) in order to hear about the problem. Maybe the movie will be played a lot in high schools and colleges, but the movie is way to dry to expect anybody to watch it for pleasure (if, say, it was on TBS for a month).
Afterwards Jay & I and Lessa ate at Braums, later joined by David & Annie. David & Annie are getting married this Saturday! I’m very excited for them and can’t wait to see the ceremony. David got a job in the city (cementing where they stay for a while), meaning he and Annie will be close enough to hang out with more than two or three times a year.
