A Bunch of Random Thoughts

The first Winstead-Vrazel anniversary BBQ went quite well, with lots of food, frisbee playing, splash park fun and improv-ing. I hope to attend the 2nd (and therefor now annual) event next year. Buck can really cook a mean burger— I’m not a fan of burgers in general, but there’s something about an irregularly shaped, thick slab of ground beef lightly seasoned and cooked until it’s just done and garnished with homegrown tomatoes that makes me wish I could eat more than one burger in a sitting.

While we were BBQ’ing there was apparently another event going on at the park; some kind of (possibly Christian) concert was going on at the amphitheater and lots of families with small children were around. As the evening wore on our numbers increased as their numbers decreased, and we took hold of at least 3 pic-nic tables. I think the beautiful sunset-drenched storm that was approaching helped our cause. We care little for thunderstorms with gorgeous lightning and rumbling thunder, especially when the storm dissipates and we see no rain at all.

A friend of Jay’s from his creative writing class is leaving town soon, and is selling off her furniture. It appears as though we’ve snagged ourselves a queen-sized bed in “wonderful” condition, including mattress, box spring, and bedframe for a very low price. Jay and I have been talking (wishing, as new beds are expensive) about getting a larger bed for a while— even when we had a couple of twin beds/frames of the same height pushed together we still ended up sleeping on just one of the beds, due to the uncomfortable edges in the middle. While we are very snuggly people and for the most part don’t mind sharing the 39 inches of a twin bed, sometimes you just need to spread out. Or be able to turn over without making careful calculations as to whether your arm is actually propping the other up, causing an even more uncomfortable situation should he roll over onto you and trap you at the edge of the bed. Then it becomes a game of gently persuading the body that it really wants to roll back over, which usually backfires, and then you have to slide out of bed and wait a few minutes for him to resume his natural configuration of sticking to just one side of the bed. It’s the stuff of sitcoms, but it’s a lot less amusing at 4am.

We’re going to find a way next Wednesday (26th, as early in the morning as can be managed, apparently) to transport the set to the apartment. Manpower and truck power is probably going to be needed.

I’ve made up a list of goals for the possible site redesign:

  • Emphasize comment author more than current design
  • Get away from white
  • Use more than one color (and try not to make the main color a light blue like all of my designs have been since I left Tripod)
  • De-emphasize sidebar as a whole, and move more important aspects to a more prominent position
  • Use as few images as possible

Any comments/suggestions are welcome.

  1. One of Sig’s favorite things to do is search for pre-created themes and tweak them to his desire. This often breaks them beyond all reason, and he has the fun of trying to put it back together again. That, or he makes it look completely different from the way it started. The structure is already there, he just plays till it looks like something he would enjoy. It’s fun listening to him in the process. :)

  2. Oh, and congrats on the bed! Sig and I are also cuddly people, but twin beds are just a little too small for his sprawling tendencies. ;)

And I’m totally jealous about the thunderstorm. We get far too few of those around here. It’s the one thing I miss the most about the South.

  3. yay, new color. something not bright i hope *sensitive night eyes*

    also, pictures arent bad.

  4. Thanks Sunbeam!

Unfortunately we’re getting fewer and fewer thunderstorms here. We’re in a severe drought and are only getting 40-60% of the precipitation we normally get.

Pictures may not be bad in general, Weiss, but it’s a personal challenge of mine to make the site look good with few pictures.

The new design definitely won’t be too bright– I’m actually thinking of going for a darker theme this time around.

  5. I think you should make it white text on black, like IGN back in ‘98 or so.
