Women’s Razors + Knitwear
Sunday, September 10th, 2006 @ 4:31pm. Category: General.I needed to defuzz some knitted items today, but I couldn’t find any of my single-blade disposable razors. I had, however, gotten a free Schick Quattro (or whatever they’re calling it for their women’s razors line) in the mail, and tried it out.
This thing has some heft to it (it’s made with real metal!) and feels great. It’s so great that I might replace my aging Venus razor (it’s one of the blue ones from the first push for a 3-blade razor).
Of course, I’ve got sensitive skin and 3 blades is probably all it can handle. But this free Schick is such a great razor for defuzzing knitwear that I might have to pick up some extra blades for it eventually.
Maybe when the clicky part that accepts new blades on my razor is done for (after 8 years it has to be going out soon) I’ll try out something new. I hear men’s razors have blades that start sharper than women’s razors, plus they get ones that aren’t made of dinky plastic.

I don’t know if men’s razors start out sharper or not. I’ve heard the opposite is true. So much, in fact, that men sometimes go to great lengths to keep thier manliness even though they use little pink Bic girl razors, as seen here:

I mean, those thing can cut through a hedge bush.

I’ve heard that the multiblade razors have sharper edges for men’s because they think women don’t need sharper blades for their legs and so spend less money on duller razors.
The pink bics are sharp as hell, though they don’t hold their edge at all. They’re good for a max of 2 shaves and then I have to toss them, so I stick with my non-disposable for the time being.

Actually you’re probably right. It generally takes me a long time to switch razor blades. I use one of those Mach 3 things. On second thought, maybe I don’t switch blades for a while because they cost so darned much, so I dunno.

Schick Quattro ROCKS! The women’s version is better than the men’s, because there are little fins on the bottom to grip the skin and make the hair stand up so you can shave more of it.
I’ve been really happy with Schick, because of the little wires over the blades that keep them from cutting too deeply. My skin is pretty sensitive, too; regular razors are more likely to burn or nick.
I haven’t used Venus yet, mainly because I’m opposed to the amount of packaging they require (a holdover from my B.S. in environmental science). ;)

Venus is alright but the cartridges are expensive. If you like the Quattro I’d stick with it, as their blade design seems about the same. The handle on the Quattro is loads better than the handle on the Venus, although the Venus handle has cool translucent blue coloring going for it.

My mom bought me a Mach 3 razor about 8 or 9 years ago, I think, and it’s the best razor I have tried to date. (Anything that is pink or has a moisturizing strip is a no-no and good way to cause major nicks.) The cartridges are expensive but last a long time. It works nicely with Skintimate shaving gel - even my dad admits he likes the ladies’ stuff better.

Hey. I use the Mach 3 razors on my legs and “other areas”. I hardly ever get cut anymore.
Also using shower gel or bubble bath as a shaving gel helps.
My boyfriend and I use the same razor so we go to COSTCO and buy the big packs. It saves us a bit of money.
The boyfriend likes this Teatree shaving gel from Paul Mitchell.
