An Exciting Week

And yet I’m going to write about some free samples I got in the mail!

I received a packet of Blue Ribbon Original Blend Seasoning, and a mini-bag of ACT II microwave popcorn (gotten from the Wal-Mart free sample site which unfortunately appears to be bare for the holidays). The seasoning suggested it worked well on popcorn, so I combined the two, and had delicious savory popcorn while Jay played the end game of Final Fantasy XII.

Ok, here’s a little bit of my exciting week:

I started a job! Yay! Paychecks! Eventually! But I have to still go through training and that’s pretty borning. I’m a public health specialist, which means that if microbes can cause a problem for the public then I’m there taking care of it. Except for cosmetologists. Barbers we inspect, but for some reason we don’t inspect cosmetologists. The government is weird like that.

It sleeted/freezing rained Wednesday night and Thursday morning, then snowed Thursday into the evening. All told we got an inch of ice on the ground under 6 inches of snow. I, having absolutely no leave earned, had to come to work anyway or get my paycheck late. I walked Thursday morning (about a mile and a half) since the roads were crap and I can’t drive on ice/snow well. It was cold and I’m not as young as I used to be, but it wasn’t hard walk at all. I’ve had to do worse when skiing, and on Thursday all I had with me was my lunch and a change of clothes and no unweildly skis. However, this shocked the other 4 people who showed up, and on Friday morning my boss called me and said he was picking me up. How embarassing.

Thursday was spent answering phones and watching the storm blow in. Lots of appointments were rescheduled and lots of angry people were politely dealt with until they hung up. People, if your baby is out of formula on Tuesday, and you wait until it’s Thursday to call, and that Thursday happens to be a day with blizzard and white out conditions, don’t except to get any formula vouchers from us. The WIC person was not there and could not help you.

We also sheltered a disabled gentlemen whom the bus dropped off and would not take anywhere else. The bus driver came over and saw the signs on our door (”CLOSED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER” and “NO FOOD SCHOOL TODAY”) and still unloaded the man on us. He was going to have to wait 30-45 minutes for the next bus, so we let him sit in the lobby. He was quite grateful.

Friday was much less fun and much more boring. I answered phones for the first half, and then for the second half I went back to my office and read since the other secretaries had come in. I never knew that pool management was so boring.

Right now I am enjoying my Saturday. I slept in 4 hours later than I usually get up and helped Jay jump start his car. In the snow I found some cat tracks and some bird tracks, which caused Jay to hop around in the snow like a bird. :-) Now I shall shop for a new hdd to replace my failing OS drive (and probably not order it for a month until I get a paycheck) and fold clothes, but mostly be lazy.
