So! Jay and I finally found a house, and we’re closing on Thursday (we think). Apparently I have some anxiety over this, or at least that’s what I’m taking from this dream:

Jay and I have closed on our house! We finish packing up the rest of our stuff, load up the U-Haul, and head over to the new house. In dream-land, there is a dentist office across the street from the new house and I am happy about it, as he is a good dentist.

When I get inside I find the house now has vaulted ceilings with exposed wood beams, and the kitchen has shrunk. That’s OK, as there is still a double oven and I begin to make lasagna and a pie at the same time! Even in dreams, I am easily amused.

Eventually the lasagna and pie are done, and we take it over to my parents house in a tiny town a few hours away. When we get there, we find out we’ve actually bought my parents’ tiny 1985 generic house, and NOT the sweet ranch house in the city! My parents and younger sister are panicked at seeing us there with the U-Haul so soon and are not anywhere close to being packed and moved out yet. My parent’s place is a dump in this dream– mice and roaches run free in all the extra clutter their “packing” has created.

I give them the lasagna and pie to buy us some time. Jay is upset– he can’t believe we’ll have to pay another day on the U-Haul. I am upset– ALL of our stuff is packed, we have nowhere to go, we’re 2 hours away from all our friends and our jobs, and now my family is angry at me for making them move out of their home!

What will we do?

I don’t find out the solution to all this mess, as a thunderclap wakes me up.

One of the houses we are looking at buying was built in 1951. It resides at the end of a small, quiet neighborhood. The street it’s on ends in a field, suddenly. The way the trees have been cleared imply a much larger neighborhood was the plan at some point.

It is a failed suburban development, mainly inhabited by older couples, plus the occasional house rented to college students.

It’s a little bit creepy, but I kind of like it.

I don’t really know if we should buy a house— it seems a little bit pointless to spend all that money just to make sure we can’t move easily in a few years— but it is fun looking at houses.
